We sometimes suspend judgment and disbelief, but when jealousy and ambition are suspended from the ceiling, what’s going on there?

Released last year in Japan, Her Love Boils Bathwater (湯を沸かすほどの熱い愛) has been making its way around North America in recent months. I had a chance to watch this film recently and was quickly amazed by how its unassuming characters unfurl themselves earnestly in their circumstances and with stunning vulnerability and intensity. I love how Futaba, the mother of this family, resolutely pulls the past into present for the sake of the future.

Wow.

What might loneliness say if it called during its travels? Rigorous recently my story “Loneliness, From a Distance” which offers one possibility.
